Oregon allows rebuilt title vehicles to be registered and driven legally — but there are things every buyer should understand before signing the paperwork. Here's what we tell every customer who asks about salvage or rebuilt title cars.
A rebuilt title (also called a reconstructed title in Oregon) means the vehicle was previously declared a total loss by an insurance company, then repaired and re-inspected to be roadworthy again. The damage could have been from a collision, flood, fire, or theft recovery. Once repaired and passed inspection, it gets a "Salvage — Rebuilt" notation on the title.
It depends on the repair quality and the nature of the original damage. Here's what we recommend:
Rebuilt title vehicles typically sell for 20–40% below clean title market value. For buyers who do their homework, this can be excellent value. For buyers who skip inspection — it can be a costly mistake. At C&K, we always disclose title status upfront and provide CarFax with every vehicle.
Most major insurers will cover rebuilt title vehicles for liability and collision, but some may decline comprehensive coverage. Financing can be trickier — many banks won't lend on rebuilt titles, so be prepared to pay cash or work with a credit union that's flexible.
